It depends on format of tournament.
How many chips you have, how fast blinds go up , and other. |

It also depends on the stage of the tournament. In the beginning the pot is most of the time smaller because of low blinds and no antes, so not much profit if you try to bluff I think.
Also when you play tournaments with a low buy in, in the first hands, you see people go all in fast, even with the craziest hands, so not really a good spot to steal blinds. I think you can do that once a while and specially at the stage just before the bubble.
So I would say, play conservative first, then get more active just before bubble time, and after that stay active to stay ahead of blinds/antes.
What I also see, is that players are aggresive from the start, so they can accumulate chips fast. with those accumlated chips they can play more hands. It really depends on what you prefer yourself. |

| When you have time (ie: low blinds, not increasing fast) it is better to play only when you have a good hand |

like the others it depends on the type of claim is a MTT tournament if I consider the best in the beginning is to play around with what I would say a table of starting hands strategy and after big stack if our bb is less to be more selective if we have very few bb thus by the phase of push or fold and if the case of a sng for a table to play on a selective principle and safety interests and change our style depending on our stack to switch to blind stealing push or fold etc.
sorry for my English is not very good I hope this council will serve |

| If survival is your goal, skip slightly positive EV situations that have a high risk of knocking you out. Why take a cEV-neutral coinflip if you are going to get knocked out half the time. You'll last longer, but at a cost of reducing your chances of winning. |

For me I do all of this... Bluff, sometime aggressive calling a raise with 23(depends on my total chips though), sometime folding a AJ,KJ,AQ(if low on chips and/or many people going all in or raising biiig)...
but the main thing, when its my best hand I try to maximize my pot... |

| To survive in most tourneys you've gotta be bold at the beginning, try going All In with big hands to try and rope other players in. A gamble I know but if it pays off and you have a healthy stack then you can be a little more patient as it goes on. Most players stay away from calling this but the few who do do it more often from the buzz than the fact they've got a good hand or they are bored. Later in tourneys if you are stacked high and have crap hands let the clock run right down as this will help keep you in longer and there is a greater chance of others being knocked out during that time this is handy especially if you are near the cash places. |

For me it depends on cards. I prefer to wait till I get a nice hand. Then I usually raise a bit. But it also depends a bit on other players on the table. And on how much chips I got myself.
But I prefer slow play as much as possible. |
